Invisalign™

Invisalign™ uses a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners. These aligners will straighten misaligned teeth. Its innovative technique allows for discreet straightening. They use a small amount of tooth movement for each aligner. You will progress to the subsequent aligners every two weeks. Your teeth will gradually shift into their correct positions. As the aligners are not fixed to your teeth, they are easier to get used to. They can be removed when you eat, drink and brush your teeth. Giving you the benefits of optimum hygiene.

Benefits of Invisalign:

    • Invisalign utilises state of the art technologies. By doing so, teeth are straightened virtually invisibly. You also get a snapshot of how your teeth will look after treatment. This is included as part of your virtual treatment plan.
    • They are removable. Meaning you can show off your Invisalign smile during your treatment. This also allows you to eat and drink what you like.
    • The aligners are comfortable. Unlike traditional braces, they contain no metal brackets and wires.
    • Invisalign allows you to brush and floss with no problems. Your dental health will remain the same, if not improve. This may help you to become more conscious of your dental health.

  1. Your Virtual Teeth

No impressions are required. We use an iTero intraoral scanner. This takes a series of images of your teeth. A computer-generated virtual image of your teeth and bite is formed. Ensuring maximum accuracy of your Invisalign™ aligner.  Your Clincheck is reviewed and treatment plan designed. This will be done by your Orthodontist. Your aligners will be custom made at the Invisalign™ laboratories in USA.

  2. Fitting Appointment

The fitting appointment consists of the placement of any tooth coloured attachments. These are usually required to facilitate the movement of certain teeth. And the fitting of the aligners themselves. Wear instructions for your aligners will also be detailed at this time. An oral hygiene care session concludes the appointment. You will be shown how to insert and remove your new aligners. As well as how to take care of them

  3. Aligner checks

Aligner checks with Invisalign™ treatment are straightforward. However, at certain times of your treatment, longer appointments may be required. This is to complete adjustments set out by the treatment plan.

  4. Deband Appointment

Upon completion of your aligner treatment, any attachments will be cleaned and polished off your teeth. This is done by our Hygienists. A set of retainers is then made for you.

  5. Retainers and Retention

Your retainers retain your new tooth positions. Wearing them is paramount to maintaining your new smile. Relapse can occur if retainers are not worn. Its severity can present in varying degrees. Further retainer check appointments are included in your treatment fee. Dr. Skilton and Dr. Yap are happy to provide additional retainer checks if required.

What are attachments?

Invisalign attachments are small tooth-coloured “bumps”. They are attached to certain teeth. This increases the predictability of the tooth movements with the aligners. Almost all InvisalignTM treatments require these attachments. This is to provide a good result.

Will I still need braces after InvisalignTM treatment?

Invisalign treatment is often recommended instead of braces. Therefore placement of braces would be unusual after Invisalign treatment. However, in some cases difficult tooth movements are required. So braces may be recommended to finalise the bite. Also to correct the positions of certain teeth. At Simply Orthodontics, if braces are required for a short time at the end of the Invisalign treatment, there are no extra costs.

How long does Invisalign take?

The length of treatment depends on the severity of your condition. This may only be determined by your orthodontist. On average, treatment takes about 12 months for adults. Length of treatment also depends upon how well you stick to the treatment requirements. You are required to wear your retainers for 20-22 hours each day.
